In the spring of 2011 the Clinton Parks & Recreation department was awarded $30,000 at the annual Town Meeting for the reconstruction of the Savage Field basketball court located off of Vale Street. Once Jessica Brodie, the new Director of Parks and Recreation, was hired in September of 2012 she researched the project in more detail. After obtaining three quotes from regional contractors, the project was estimated to cost $40,000 – $50,000 from start to finish. As state law requires, any public project estimated over $20,000 must be submitted for public bid. The department posted their request for proposals in December 2012 through the state central register as well as local newspapers and held the bid opening on Friday, February 1st, 2013 at 2:00pm when they opened all sealed bids. After evaluating the submitted bids for the past three weeks, they will be awarding the project to the lowest, qualified bidder for the project within the next week. The cost to complete the project will be just under $38,000.00 not including the baseball field bleachers, and just under $42,000.00 including the bleachers.

In order for the department to proceed with the project, they need to raise the additional funds necessary to complete the basketball court before the bid price expires. The original estimate of $30,000 that was submitted at the 2011 Town Meeting did not take into consideration labor and additional expenses related to the Tennessee Gas Line that runs within 5 feet of the basketball court. The Clinton Parks & Recreation Department now requests your assistance to see this project come to fruition. The department is seeking to raise a total of $12,000 to complete every part of the project this spring into early summer. Any amount that you are able to contribute would be appreciated.
