Code of Conduct for ALL CPR Program Participants

The Clinton Parks & Recreation team is dedicated to providing a wide range of programming to ALL members of our community. To accomplish this goal and establish consistent expectations, all program participants are to behave appropriately and promote a safe, fun and healthy community environment. Our goal is to promote character values of caring, honesty, respect, and personal responsibility in all aspects of our Summer Playground & Teen Adventure programs.

All participants need to abide by these basic behavior standards.  We encourage parents or guardians to review and discuss the behavior standards with their children participating in our youth programs.  All Clinton Parks and Recreation staff are held to the same standards.  Your voluntary participation in our programs is your consent to follow these behavior standards and the resulting consequences.

As a program participant, I will:

RESPECT

  • Be respectful, cooperative and will contribute positively to the experience of fellow participants.
  • Be an active listener
  • Be careful and considerate that my actions will not hurt another’s feelings or hurt them physically, either intentionally or accidentally.
  • Show respect to the staff and cooperate fully with their instructions. Always follow directions.
  • Respect the rights and beliefs of others and treat others with courtesy and consideration.
  • Always respect the property of others.
  • Participants have the right to participate in an environment where all participants can achieve their full potential without being impeded by discrimination or harassment based on race, religion, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, political affiliation, veteran’s status, disability, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, or local nondiscrimination laws. Harassment may be verbal, visual, or physical contact conduct.
  • Every participant in the program is expected to exercise an attitude that elicits good will towards others and program activities.

PERSONAL SPACE AND PROPERTY

  • Be respectful of all CPR property and equipment/supplies.
  • Be respectful of the personal property of other participants/staff/talent
  • Never mark, deface, or destroy CPR or personal property.

BEHAVIOR

  • I will conduct myself responsibly. I understand that excessive horseplay, inappropriate touching, unwelcome teasing/bullying, or any unkind behavior is not allowed and will not be tolerated.
  • I will communicate in an appropriate manner, which means I will not use foul language, gestures, or harsh words. I will not raise my voice or use verbal threats of any kind.
  • I will refrain from deliberately causing bodily harm to fellow participants or staff or to property. I understand that pushing, kicking, hitting, or fighting are not acceptable behavior. This behavior will not be tolerated and will be grounds for suspension/dismissal from the program without refund or program credit.
  • Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. This includes any intentional written, verbal, or physical act intended to harm another participant.
  •

SAFETY

  • Participants need to pay attention to their surroundings and use care in all activities.
  • Participants will adhere to all safety rules and regulations given for each activity that he/she participates in while at a program.

GENERAL

  • The expectation of all youth programming is that if a program participant is experiencing a problem with another participant or experiencing other issues while present at our program, they will inform a staff member immediately. If a staff member is not informed about a problem, they cannot assist the participant or stop the problem.
  • Have FUN, but not at the expense of others.
  • Participants are encouraged to participate in activities to the best of their ability.
  • Not bring weapons, look-alike weapons, or objects that may be used to threaten, intimidate, or harm others or to damage property.
  • If a youth participant is bringing their cell phone or electronic device to a drop-off program, it should stay powered off and, in their backpack, unless during a designated time permitted by a staff member.
  • Under no circumstances may photos be taken of other participants or staff member. We reserve the right to ask children for the devices until returned to an adult at program pick up.

*If a parent or legal guardian needs to get into contact with a child, please call the Clinton Parks and Recreation office, and we will help put you in contact with your child as quickly as we can.

Consequences:  Any participant who engages in discriminatory, harassing, or otherwise objectionable behavior is subject to disciplinary action and removal from the program. When a participant’s behavior, adult, or child, is deemed inappropriate, they will be dealt with using the following steps:

  • If a participant displays inappropriate behavior, staff members will verbally request that the behavior be discontinued. If the participant is a child, and the behavior does not stop the staff will implement a time-out or ‘take-a-break’. Time outs are given appropriate to the child’s age, ability, and the severity of the inappropriate behavior. If the child’s behavior reoccurs or escalates, the parent will be notified immediately, and the child may be removed from the program for the remainder of that day, and possibly the day following.
  • If a participant’s unacceptable behavior continues on a regular basis, staff members, the participant and their parent/guardian will meet.  It is also to be stated that one more incident of unacceptable behavior will result in the participant’s possible removal from the program permanently, or for a specific period depending on the severity of the behavior. This report is signed by the participant, staff, and parent/guardian.  One copy will remain at the Clinton Parks and Recreation Department and the participant will retain another copy.
  • If, after the above procedures have been followed, inappropriate behaviors continue, the participant will be removed for the designated period of time, previously determined at the conference meeting. A parent/guardian will be contacted and requested to immediately remove the child from the program.

In extreme cases of unacceptable behavior, especially those that are physically threatening to other participants or staff, the Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to immediately remove a participant from a program.

Code of Conduct shall be enforced for all participants each day. Disciplinary actions may range from, but are not limited to reprimands, time inside, or away from the group activities, making amends or helping a staff member with tasks. We will call parents/guardians if a youth participant is having repeated difficulty following the Code of Conduct.  If we call home a youth participant may not be allowed to come to the program the following session/day. If we need to call home more than once the youth participant may be asked to leave the program indefinitely.

If a participant is asked to leave the program for any reason, or any duration of time due to repeated inappropriate behavior or violations of our Program Code of Conduct, a refund/credit will not be given.

Cancellation Policy

No refunds will be issued if a participant withdraws from a program. No exceptions.

If a program is cancelled by the department a full refund will be issued. Refunds checks are issued by mail from the Town of Clinton and must be processed by the town accounting and treasury departments. This process will typically take 4-6 weeks for reimbursements to be remitted (*Excluding Summer Playground/Teen Adventure).

If a cancellation is requested at least 2 weeks prior to the program start date a program credit will be issued and can be used on any Clinton Parks & Recreation program. These credits never expire
(*Excluding Summer Playground/Teen Adventure).

If a participant withdraws within 2 weeks of the program start date, no refund or program credit will be given.

Any program credits issued for a week of Summer Playground will subtract the $40.00 field trip fee from the total tuition cost, as all field trips are paid in advance.

If for any reason a participant is asked to leave a program for any length of time, no refund/credit will be provided. A
